The Uses of Prednisolone succinate

Prednisolone hemisuccinate, is a metabolite of Prednisolone (P703740), which is a synthetic glucocorticoid, a derivative of cortisol, and can be used to treat a variety of inflammatory and auto-immune conditions. It is also the active metabolite of the drug prednisone.

Definition

ChEBI: Prednisolone succinate is a hemisuccinate resulting from the formal condensation of the 21-hydroxy group prednisolone with one of the carboxy groups of succinic acid. It is used to treat mild to moderate non-infectious eye allergies and inflammation, including damage caused by chemical and thermal burns. It has a role as an anti-inflammatory drug. It is a hemisuccinate, an 11beta-hydroxy steroid, a 17alpha-hydroxy steroid, a 20-oxo steroid, a 3-oxo-Delta(1),Delta(4)-steroid and a tertiary alpha-hydroxy ketone. It is functionally related to a prednisolone and a succinic acid. It is a conjugate acid of a prednisolone succinate(1-).
