What is AMMONIUM CARBONATE?

Chemical properties

mixture of ammonium bicarbonate and ammonium carbamate; colorless; hard translucent crystal(s) with ammonia odor; obtained from a mixture of ammonium sulfate and calcium carbonate by sublimation; used in baking powder(s), as a mordant in dyeing, and as an expectorant; changes to bicarbonate in air [MER06] [HAW93]

The Uses of AMMONIUM CARBONATE

In baking powders, for washing and defatting woolens, tanning; as mordant in dyeing; manufacture of rubber articles, casein glue, casein colors; in fire extinguishers, smelling salts; for separating cacao constituents; as a reagent in analytical chemistry. Pharmaceutic aid (source of ammonia).
