Black crystals. Soluble in alkalies and hydrogen fluoride; slightly soluble in water.
The Uses of VANADIUM (III) OXIDE
Catalyst, e.g., when making ethanol from ethylene.
The Uses of VANADIUM (III) OXIDE
Vanadium(III) oxide catalyzes the direct fluorination reactions. It is used in the coating of carbon nanotubes and as an electrode in lithium ion batteries.
Air & Water Reactions
VANADIUM (III) OXIDE undergoes slow air oxidation at room temperature [Kirk-Othmer]. VANADIUM (III) OXIDE does ignite upon heating in air. Slightly soluble in water.
Reactivity Profile
VANADIUM (III) OXIDE is basic. Reacts rapidly with chlorine. soluble in alkalis and in hydrofluoric acid.
Flammability and Explosibility
Non flammable
Safety Profile
Poison by ingestion, subcutaneous, and intratracheal routes. Igmtes when heated in air. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of VOx. See also VANADIUM COMPOUNDS.
