The Uses of trans-Ferulic acid

trans-Ferulic acid was used for esterification of methacrylated dextran. It was also used to study the effect of oral administration of trans-ferulic acid to c57BL mice on ethanol-induced liver injury. Furthermore, it has been used in the synthesis of new biocompatible antioxidant polymers linking trans-ferulic acid.

The Uses of trans-Ferulic acid

These Secondary Standards are qualified as Certified Reference Materials. These are suitable for use in several analytical applications including but not limited to pharma release testing, pharma method development for qualitative and quantitative analyses, food and beverage quality control testing, and other calibration requirements.

Definition

ChEBI: Ferulic acid is a ferulic acid consisting of trans-cinnamic acid bearing methoxy and hydroxy substituents at positions 3 and 4 respectively on the phenyl ring. It has a role as an antioxidant, a MALDI matrix material, a plant metabolite, an anti-inflammatory agent, an apoptosis inhibitor and a cardioprotective agent. It is a conjugate acid of a ferulate.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Hydroxycinnamic acid found in plant-based foods. Antioxidant.

Description

Trans-Ferulic acid (TFA) is a derivative of hydroxyl cinnamic acid and is abundant in foods, fruits and beverages. Many studies have proven the effectiveness of this compound as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial agent.

Ecology

Trans-Ferulic acid is one of the compounds that initiate the vir (virulence) region of Agrobacterium tumefaciens, inducing it to infect plant cells.

Purification Methods

Crystallise ferulic acid from H2O. [Beilstein 10 H 436, 10 IV 1776.]
