N-Acetyl-DL-phenylalanine is an antidepressant, used to prevent kidney damage.

ChEBI: The N-acetyl derivative of phenylalanine.
Manufacturing Process
The phenylalanine was dispersed in water. A 1 N aqueous solution of sodium
hydroxide was slowly added to this dispersion, and the pH of the solution
reached a value of 7-8.
Then acetylbromide was dissolved in this solution, to give a Nacetylphenylalanine.
