What is IRON (II) IODIDE?
Chemical properties
black crystalline powder
Chemical properties
Iron dissolves in a solution of iodine in water and evaporation of the resulting solution leads to a deposit of green crystals of the tetrahydrate. The anhydrous salt has a CdI2 type lattice and is paramagnetic, μeff(295°K) = 5·75 B.M. It is very soluble in water with slight hydrolysis and also soluble in ether and ethanol.
