What is guacetisal?

Chemical properties

White crystalline powder, almost odorless and tasteless. Melting point 74 ~ 74.5 ℃.

The Uses of guacetisal

Guacetisal has the effect of delaying kinin to make bronchospasm, and has expectorant, asthma, cough, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects. For the treatment of influenza, cold trachea and bronchitis, pulmonary complications, and acute and chronic respiratory catarrhal lesions with or without fever, pain and inflammation.

Biological Activity

Guacetisal is produced by the esterification of acetylsalicylic acid acetate with guaiacol and has the potential to be used in the study of chronic bronchitis, from patent CN 106866420 A.

Synthesis

Guaiacol salicylate, acetic anhydride and a catalytic amount of concentrated sulfuric acid are mixed and reacted at 60°C. It was dropped into ice brine with stirring and left to stand. The crystals were collected by filtration, washed with water until neutral, and recrystallized with ethanol to obtain Guacetisal, the melting point was 72-74.5°C, and the yield was 88%.
