The central structure of the fluoroscein, eosin, and rhodamine dyes.
Definition
A yellow crystalline organic compound, used in making dyestuffs and fungicides.
Definition
xanthene: A heterocyclic compoundhaving three fused rings withone oxygen atom, C13H10O; m.p.101–102°C b.p. 310–312°C. The ringstructure is present in a class of xanthene dyes.
What are the applications of Application
Xanthene derivatives constitute an important class of heterocyclic compounds present in bioactive natural products and pharmaceuticals exhibiting wide-ranging pharmaceutical and biological activities, such as antimicrobial, antiproliferative, antibacterial, antiviral and antinociceptive activities, and antioxidant activity. Xanthenes can also be used in the preparation of stable laser dyes, fluorescent sensor and protein labeling fluorophores used in laser technology, functional materials for visualization of biomolecular assemblies, photodynamic therapy, and as antagonists.
General Description
Xanthene (10H-9-oxaanthracene) is a heterocyclic compound generally used as an important building block in organic synthesis. It is a core moiety of many dyes like?fluorescein, eosins, and rhodamines.
