Trifluoroacetonitrile (CF3CN) is an important chemical intermediate. It is used in the preparation of other organofluorine derivatives and as a substitute for electrical insulation, working fluids and biomedical applications.

Preparation

Trifluoroacetonitrile is prepared by dehydration reaction using trifluoroacetamide as raw material and polyphosphoric acid as solvent under the effect of phosphorus pentoxide dehydrating agent.
