What is Sophoridine?

Description

One of a number of minor alkaloids isolated from Leontice albertii Rgl., this base crystallizes from petroleum ether as colourless prisms. It is dextrorotatory having a specific rotation of [α]D + 59.3° (c 1.3, EtOH) and yields a crystalline methiodide, m.p. 249°C. The structure has been assigned on the basis of chemical analysis and spectroscopic determinations.

The Uses of Sophoridine

(+)-Sophoridine acts as an anti-inflammatory agent in vitro and in vivo. Anticancer agent, with a promising anti-tumor effect and lower toxicity.
