Sodium copper chlorophyllin Structural

What is Sodium copper chlorophyllin?

Description

Sodium copper chlorophyllin (SCC) is a water-soluble and bright green mixture derived from natural chlorophyll that has potential antimutagenic and antioxidant properties. This compound is used as a food colorant and supplement.
SCC of the commercial-grade is prepared from a reaction between a crude chlorophyll extract and methanolic sodium hydroxide, followed by replacement of the central magnesium atom with a heavy metal.

Chemical properties

Copper chlorophyllin sodium salt mainly contains copper chlorophyll copper trisodium and chlorophyll copper disodium. Properties: powdery dark green, easily soluble in water. Source: Sodium Copper Chlorophyllinate is a natural pigment extracted from spinach with modern biotechnology.

The Uses of Sodium copper chlorophyllin

As a pharmaceutical raw material, sodium copper chlorophyllin can promote the healing of gastrointestinal ulcers, and can also be used for acute and chronic hepatitis and hepatomegaly, cirrhosis caused by hepatitis, and promote the recovery of liver function; as a food coloring agent, it is widely used in cakes, Beverage, candy, ice cream and other food; as a daily chemical raw material, it is widely used in various green pharmaceutical toothpastes and cosmetics.

Benefits

Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin is highly soluble in water and can be used to impart a vivid natural green color in dietary supplements (tablets + capsules), and personal care products.
Internal Deodorant: Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin may help to reduce digestive tract odors related to a colostomy, ileostomy, or incontinence and may help to reduce odor related to halitosis.

Toxicity evaluation

Sodium copper chlorophyllin has no toxic side effects and has a bright future in the medical field.
Sodium copper chlorophyllin was originally thought to be poorly absorbed because of its lack of apparent toxicity. However, a placebo-controlled clinical trial found that significant amounts of copper chlorin e4 in the serum of people taking chlorophyllin tablets (300 mg/day), indicating that it is indeed absorbed. In vitro studies have found chlorin e4 to have a higher stability than chlorin e6.
