CALMAGITE Structural

What is CALMAGITE?

Chemical properties

dark brown crystalline powder

The Uses of CALMAGITE

Calmagite is widely used in analytical chemistry as an indicator in the titration of calcium or magnesium with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). It is also useful in the determination of magnesium in biological materials.

The Uses of CALMAGITE

As indicator in titration of Ca or Mg with EDTA.

The Uses of CALMAGITE

Used for the determination of magnesium in biological materials.

What are the applications of Application

Calmagite is a complexometric indicator used in analytical chemistry

Purification Methods

A crude dye is extracted with anhydrous diethyl ether and forms red crystals from Me2CO. It gives a red colour in H2O at pH 7—9 and a blue colour at pH 9—11 which turns red on addition of Ca2+ or Mg2+ ions. [Lindstrom & Diehl Anal Chem 32 1123 1960]. Complexes with Ca, Mg and Th.
