white to slightly red crystalline powder
The Uses of Benzene-1,3-diamine dihydrochloride
m-Phenylenediamine dihydrochloride is used in the synthesis of bis(thiazolidone) and bis(thiohydantoin) derivatives. It can be used to increase the pore size in the fabrication of poly(aniline-co-1,3-phenylenediamine) cryogels.
Safety Profile
Poison by intraperitoneal route. Questionable carcinogen with experimental tumorigenic data. Mutation data reported. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of HCl and NOx. See also other phenylenediamine entries and AMINES
