Manufacturing Process

1.5 g of a sodium hydride suspension in oil are added to another suspension of 10.83 g of 2-[1-(2-(4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)phenyl)ethyl)piperidin-4-yl]-1Hbenzimidazole in 150 ml of dimethylformamide and the mixture is stirred for 1 h at room temperature, then a solution of 2-(2-ethoxyethyl)tosylate in dimethylformamide are slowly added. The mixture is heated at 60°C for 16 h, poured onto water and extracted with ether. The extracts are washed with water, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated. The obtained oil is purified by column chromatography yielding 6.0 g of 1-(2-ethoxyethyl)-2- [1-(2-(4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)phenyl)ethyl)piperidine-4-yl]-1H-benzimidazole, melting point 138°-140°C.
