The Uses of 5-ACETYL-2-METHYLPYRIDINE
5-Acetyl-2-methylpyridine is used in the preparation of pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid by using potassium permanganate as an oxidant. Further, it serves as a ligand for Suzuki coupling.
Synthesis
Prod.: from coal tar; along with Pyridine is obtained Picoline which is treated with Lithium and reacted with Acetic anhydride to acetylate the 2-Picolyl lithium.
