Chemical properties
colourless liquid
The Uses of 2,3-Dimethyl-2-butene
2,3-Dimethyl-2-butene was used in the preparation of thexyl NHC-borane (diMe-Imd-BH2thexyl).
General Description
2,3-Dimethyl-2-butene undergoes hydrolysis to form hydroxyl radical.
Purification Methods
Purify it by GLC on a column of 20% squalene on chromosorb P at 50o [Flowers & Rabinovitch J Phys Chem 89 563 1985]. Also wash it with 1M NaOH solution followed by H2O. Dry it over Na2SO4, distil it over powdered KOH under nitrogen and pass it through activated alumina before use. [Woon et al. J Am Chem Soc 108 7990 1986, Wong et al. J Am Chem Soc 109 3428 1987, Beilstein 1 IV 853.]
