What is 2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)ethyl acetate?
Chemical properties
colourless liquid with a slight fruity smell
The Uses of 2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)ethyl acetate
2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)ethyl acetate (Butyldiglycol acetate) may be used as a component to reduce the minimal film forming temperature (MTF) during poly(vinyl acetate)(PVAc) based composite film preparation. It may also be used during the formulation of thick film pastes of silver.
General Description
Colorless liquid with a mild odor. Floats and mixes slowly with water.
Air & Water Reactions
Water soluble.
Reactivity Profile
Esters react with acids to liberate heat along with alcohols and acids. Strong oxidizing acids may cause a vigorous reaction that is sufficiently exothermic to ignite the reaction products. Heat is also generated by the interaction of esters with caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing esters with alkali metals and hydrides.
Health Hazard
Prolonged breathing of vapor may cause irritation and nausea. Contact with liquid may cause mild irritation of eyes and skin. Can be absorbed through skin in toxic amounts.
Flammability and Explosibility
Non flammable
Chemical Reactivity
Reactivity with Water No reaction; Reactivity with Common Materials: No reaction; Stability During Transport: Stable; Neutralizing Agents for Acids and Caustics: Not pertinent; Polymerization: Not pertinent; Inhibitor of Polymerization: Not pertinent.
Safety Profile
Moderately toxic by ingestion. Mild skin and eye irritant. Combustible when exposed to heat or flame. To fight fire, use foam, CO2, dry chemical. Incompatible with oxidizing materials, heat, flame. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
