Description
Alogliptin benzoate, the benzoate form of alogliptin, is a highly bioavailable and selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor (IC50= 6.9 nM). It has hypoglycaemic and anti-inflammatory activity and is used as an adjunctive therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus in combination with other hypoglycaemic agents, mainly metformin. The main advantage of DPP-4 inhibitors is the low incidence of hypoglycaemia, which makes them suitable for use in the elderly and cardiac patients.
