TBPE (Tetrabromophenolphthalein Ethyl Ester Potassium Salt) is a sensitive spectrophotometric reagent for amines, quaternary ammonium salts and other cations. TBPE has been incorporated into colour-changing test strips for lead(II), and has been used in testing for ethoxylated nonionic surfactants.
