What are the applications of Application

PAF C-18 is a naturally occurring phospholipid involved in inflammation and other physiological processes

Definition

ChEBI: 2-acyl-1-alkyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine betaine in which the 1-alkyl and 2-acyl groups are specified as octacdecyl and acetyl respectively

General Description

C18-02:0 PC, also known as 1-O-octadecyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (C18∶0-PAF), is a platelet-activating factor lipid. It belongs to a class of natural PAFs and is produced in basophil leucocytes, macrophages, polymorphonuclear neutrophils and monocytes and platelets.

Biochem/physiol Actions

C18-02:0 PC or 1-O-octadecyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (C18-PAF), a platelet-activating factor (PAF) facilitates platelet aggregation and secretion. It also plays a key role in inflammation and anaphylaxis. C18-PAF exhibits neurotoxic effects by initiating caspase-independent death in PAF receptor-deficient neurons.
