What is N-nitrosoephedrine?

The Uses of N-nitrosoephedrine

N-Nitrosoephedrine is an N-nitroso derivative of (1R,2S)-(-)-Ephedrine(E574995), which is a sympathomimetic amine commonly used to treat hypotension associated with anaesthesia. It is similar in molecular structure to the well-known drugs phenylpropanolamine. N-Nitrosoephedrine can be used for in-vivo formation of mutagenic N-nitroso compounds.

Safety Profile

Confirmed carcinogen. Poison by ingestion and intraperitoneal routes. An experimental teratogen. Mutation data reported. Many N-nitroso compounds are carcinogens. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of NOx. See also N-NITROSO COMPOUNDS.
