What is Gadodiamide?
The Uses of Gadodiamide
Gadodiamide is an apoptosis inducing agent used in chondrocytes. It is primarily used in muscoskeletal diagnosis as a contrast agent.
The Uses of Gadodiamide
efers to the substance containing the water of coordination and multiple (x) waters of hydration.
Background
Gadodiamide is a paramagnetic gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) that is used in MR imaging procedures to assist in the visualization of blood vessels. It is intravenously injected and is commonly marketed under the trade name Omniscan.
Indications
For intravenous use in MRI to visualize lesions with abnormal vascularity (or those thought to cause abnormalities in the blood-brain barrier) in the brain (intracranial lesions), spine, and associated tissues.
Definition
ChEBI: A non-ionic gadolinium chelate having a macrocyclic triamine framework. It is used as a paramagnetic contrast agent in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
General Description
Gadodiamide is a clear, colorless to slightly yellow, gadolinium-based contrastagent indicated to visualize lesions with abnormal vascularityin the CNS and body. It is a nonionic gadoliniumcomplex administered by intravenous injection with an osmolalityof 2.8 times that of plasma. Gadodiamide decreasesboth the T1 and T2 relaxation times in tissueswhere it is distributed. In clinical MRI, the effect is primarily on the T1 relaxation time resulting in an increase inT1-weighted sequence signal intensity.
Metabolism
There is no detectable biotransformation or decomposition of gadodiamide.
