What are the applications of Application
Azure B is a dye used for staining semi-thin sections of plant tissues
Definition
ChEBI: An organic chloride salt having 3-(dimethylamino)-7-(methylamino)phenothiazin-5-ium as the counterion. It is used in making azure eosin stains for blood smear staining and is an active metabolite of methylene blue.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Azure B is a cationic dye. It is part of the Romanowsky stain, which is used for staining of blood films. It is also used for the localization of nucleic acids and lignin.
Purification Methods
Azure B has been twice recrystallised from H2O and dried at 100o/1hour in an oven. [Beilstein 27 III/IV 5151.]
