Chemical properties
clear colourless to slightly yellow liquid
The Uses of 5-Chlorovaleryl chloride
5-Chlorovaleroyl chloride (5-CVC) has been used in the development and validation of a GC-FID method for the analysis of low level impurities present in 5-CVC. It has been used in the synthesis of anion-exchange resins by acylation of polystyrene/divinylbenzene and subsequent amination with trimethylamine. It is commonly used as alkylating agent in the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates and other specialty chemicals.
What are the applications of Application
5-Chlorovaleryl chloride is an important medicine and pesticide intermediate. It is pharmaceutically mainly for the manufacture of the medicine Cilostazole (Cilostazol) for anti-platelet aggregation, protection of vascular endothelial cells, and atherosclerosis.5-Chlorovaleryl Chloride is also for the production of paddy rice New-type wide-spectrum weedicide pyraclonil (Pyraclonil).
General Description

Synthesis
In the existing process, producing 5-Chlorovaleryl chloride using 1,4-dichlorobutane as raw material requires a three-step reaction. First, 1,4-dichlorobutane and sodium cyanide solution are combined to form 5-chlorovaleronitrile. Then, the prepared 5-chlorovaleronitrile is hydrolyzed in concentrated hydrochloric acid to form 5-chlorovaleric acid. Finally, 5-chlorovaleronitrile reacts with thionyl chloride to generate 5-chlorovaleryl chloride.
