What is 2-Ethoxyphenol?

Chemical properties

2-ethoxy-phenol is a low melting (20-25 °C), high-boiling (216-217 °C) smoke flavour compound.

The Uses of 2-Ethoxyphenol

2-Ethoxyphenol is used in the studies on the inhibition of oral bacteria by phenolic compounds. Studies on the prostagladins cyclooxygenase inhibition by phenolic compounds. Reagent for the stereoselective preparation of (arylthiomethyl)morpholines as selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors and dual serotonin/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors.

The Uses of 2-Ethoxyphenol

2-Ethoxyphenol has been used as carbon and energy supplement in the growth medium of red-pigmented coryneform bacterium, Rhodococcus rhodochrous strain 116.

Definition

ChEBI: 2-ethoxyphenol is an aromatic ether that is catechol in which one of the hydroxy groups has been alkylated to give the corresponding ethyl ether. A low-melting (20-25 ℃), high-boiling (216-217 ℃) smoke flavour compound. It has a role as a flavouring agent. It is an aromatic ether, a volatile organic compound and a member of phenols. It is functionally related to a catechol.

General Description

2-Ethoxyphenol is a smoke flavour compound and forms complexes with iron (III).

Industrial uses

2-Ethoxyphenol is prepared analogously to guaiacol by monoetherification of catechol. The compound is an intermediate in the synthesis of ethyl vanillin.
