CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

Physical Description Hexafluoropropylene oxide is a colorless odorless gas. It is shipped as a liquefied gas under its vapor pressure. Contact with the liquid can cause frostbite. Its vapors are heavier than air. It can cause asphyxiation by the displacement of air. Exposure of the container to prolonged heat or fire may cause it to rupture violently and rocket.
Boiling Point -18 °F at 760 mmHg (NTP, 1992)
Melting Point -200 °F (NTP, 1992)
Decomposition AT TEMP BETWEEN 500-800 °C, CARBONYL FLUORIDE (COF2) IS DOMINANT PYROLYSIS PRODUCT. THIS GAS IS VERY SUSCEPTIBLE TO HYDROLYSIS, READILY YIELDING HYDROFLUORIC ACID & CARBON DIOXIDE. ABOVE 800 °C, THE PYROLYSIS PRODUCTS CONSIST OF INORGANIC FLUORIDE, A LITTLE TETRAFLUOROMETHANE & CARBON DIOXIDE. /POLYFLUORINES/
Chemical Classes Plastics & Rubber -> Other Monomers
