What is VERATROSINE?

Description

This glucoalkaloid occurs with pseudojervine in Veratrum viride. The melting point given above is that obtained in an open tube; in an evacuated tube it is 276-8°C. The base is laevorotatory having [α]25D - 53.0° (EtOH-CHCI3) and on hydrolysis with boiling, dilute HCl it furnishes P+)-glucose and Veratramine (q.v.).

The Uses of VERATROSINE

Veratrosine is a steroidal alkaloid obtained from Veratrum dahuricum which has displayed antitumor and anti-platelet activity, inhibiting the hedgehog pathway in NIH?/3T3 cells
