Physalaemin Structural

What is Physalaemin?

Description

Physalaemin is an oligopeptide that is originally derived from the skin of the South American frog Physalaemus fuscumaculatus. It belongs to the class of kinins and shares a similar chemical structure and mode of action with Substance P. It is a potent vasodilator and has hypotensive effects.

The Uses of Physalaemin

Physalaemin is a neuropeptide found in amphibians that has shown potential in the treatment of Sjogren's disease.?

Biological Activity

Physalaemin is a non-mammalian tachykinin that selectively binds with high affinity to the neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptor.

in vitro

Physalaemin (PHY), an undecapeptide with the sequence pGlu-Ala-Asp-Pro-Asn-Lys-Phe-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Met-NH2, is a member of the tachykinin family of neuropeptides. PHY is very close to the mammalian tachykinin substance P (SP) in its function and chemical composition, and SP is well studied and characterized. Physalaemin is a bradykinin potentiating peptide (BPP-5a).
