What is PHTHALYLSULFACETAMIDE?
The Uses of PHTHALYLSULFACETAMIDE
antibacterial
Definition
ChEBI: Phthalylsulfacetamide is a member of benzamides.
brand name
Talsigel (Bristol-Myers Squibb); Thalamyd (Schering) [Name previously used: Phthalylsulphacetamide.].
Purification Methods
It is prepared by hydrolysis of N-acetamidosulfophenylpthalimide by boiling for 3hours in 15% aqueous KOH followed by treatment with Norit, filtration and acidification with AcOH. Crystallise the phthalamide from hot H2O or EtOH [Jain et al. J Indian Chem Soc 24 174 1947]. Itis antibacterial.[Beilstein 14 III 2073.]
