What is Petasitenine?

Description

A pyrrolizidine alkaloid, petasitenine occurs, together with neopetasitenine (q.v.) in Petasites japonicus Maxim. Like the accompanying base, it possesses strong hepatotoxic properties.

Safety Profile

Questionable carcinogen with experimental carcinogenic data.Mutation data reported. Used as a food and herbal remedy. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of NOx.
