What is JACOLINE?

Description

A pyrrolizidine alkaloid which is found in Senecio Jacobea, this base has [α]20D + 48° (CHC13 ) and is hydrolyzed by alkalies to retronecine and jacolinecic acid, ClOH1S0 7. The latter contains three hydroxyl and three methyl groups.

The Uses of JACOLINE

Jacoline is a potentially carcinogenic, mutagenic, and teratogenic hepatotoxic alkaloid found in the nectar of tansy ragwort (S. jacobaea).
