What is BORAGE OIL?

Description

Borage oil is an extract made from the seeds of the Borago officinalis plant. It is prized for its high gamma linolenic acid (GLA) content. It’s thought that this fatty acid can help reduce inflammation tied to many diseases.

The Uses of BORAGE OIL

The topical application of borage extract (Borago officinalis)(borago) is described as anti-inflammatory. It is beneficial for sensitive skin and allergic reactions. Borage contains potassium and calcium, combined with mineral acids. This is a hardy annual plant of which the leaves-and to a lesser degree, the flower-are used.
borage seed oil (borage oil) is an effective anti-irritant, it has demonstrated hydrating properties and an ability to improve cases of pruritis and xerosis. It is a rich source of gamma-linolenic acid.

Source

Borage oil is an herb found in Syria and parts of the Middle East and Mediterranean. Borage seed oil is also a rich source of other nutrients, such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins. These nutrients are essential for maintaining healthy skin, reducing inflammation, and preventing premature aging. It is a light, non-greasy oil that is easily absorbed by the skin, making it an excellent addition to any skincare routine.

Bioactivity

Borage oil is used as an herbal treatment of skin disorders including eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and neurodermatitis as well as other inflammatory, cardiovascular and endocrine disorders, although its clinical efficacy and long-term effects are not fully elucidated yet. GLA, which accounts for approximately 24% of the oil, is converted to dihomo-γ-linolenic acid (DGLA) which acts as a precursor to anti-inflammatory mediators such as 1-series prostaglandins and the 3-series leukotrienes. Borage oil may be found in foods or in skin care products.
