What is 4-Ethylphenyl Acetate?
Chemical properties
Acetic acid 4-ethylphenyl ester is a colorless liquid. Very slightly soluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils. Harsh-anisic, rather powerful odor with sweet and somewhat floral character in higher dilution.
The Uses of 4-Ethylphenyl Acetate
Acetic acid 4-ethylphenyl ester has been suggested for use in perfume compositions, but this material does not have much to offer to the perfumer. The overall odor and performance is rather unattractive and pungent, and only mere traces can be useful in certain types of Cananga or Ylang-Ylang bases, etc
Preparation
By Acetylation of para-Ethyl phenol with Acetic anhydride.
