Preparation
Fluorescein (C.I. Acid Yellow 73, C.I. 45350) in the sodium hydroxide solution two bromination, and??made into a free acid form.
Safety Profile
Poison by ingestion and intravenous routes. An herbicide. When heated to decomposition it emits highly toxic fumes of NOx, CN-, and Br-. See also NITRILES.
Purification Methods
Crystallise it from aqueous 30% EtOH. [Beilstein 19/6 V 462.]
Properties and Applications
brilliant yellow light yellow. Slightly soluble in water for orange, with weak yellow fluorescence, soluble in ethanol for orange, with green yellow fluorescence, soluble in acetone peachblossom, with yellow fluorescence, soluble in Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol. In concentrated sulfuric acid to red light yellow, dilution after yellow brown, with orange precipitation. Dye aqueous solution to join sodium hydroxide as red edge; In the glycerol and liquid paraffin in good dispersibility. Used in medicines and cosmetics coloring.
