What is 2-Vinyl-1,3-dioxolane?
Synthesis
In a loop reactor with a total volume of 40 L, a Fixed catalyst bed with 2 L of a strongly acidic Ion exchanger (K 2431 from Bayer) was installed. On Reaction mixture with the approximate composition of 34 % acrolein, 36% ethylene glycol, 23% 2-vinyl-1,3-dioxolane, 4% water, and 3% By-products are continuously at an internal temperature pumped in a circle at 5 ℃. The weight is continuously 4.6 kg Acrolein / h and 5.0 kg ethylene glycol / h, and the appropriate amount of reaction mixture (9.6 kg) is withdrawn. The outflowing reaction mixture is at the top of the extraction column and is fed with 1.0 kg of water / h. At the foot of the Extraction column, 7.3 l / h dean fed. The draining organic and aqueous phases become one subjected to fractional distillation, being from the organic phase first acrolein and then the product 2-Vinyl-1,3-dioxolane be distilled off.
