What is 1-Methylpiperazine?
Description
The cyclic diamine 1-methylpiperazine is a pale yellow oil with a boiling point of 286 oC. It can be synthesized in several ways, including treating 1,4-dimethylpiperazine with Raney nickel (Yuan, Q.-l., et al., 2013). In 1998,?M. A. Pericàs and coauthors?used it to prepare resin-anchored chiral catalysts.
But the best use of 1-methylpiperazine may be protecting people from mosquito bites. U. R. Bernier and co-workers at the USDA Agricultural Research Service showed that bacteria on human skin form 1-methylpiperazine and other small heterocycles that?prevent mosquitoes from recognizing that someone is present. The researchers recently applied for a patent covering this use for the active compounds.

The Uses of 1-Methylpiperazine
1-Methylpiperazine is used in the preparation of 2-(4-Methyl-1-piperazinylmethyl)acrylophenone(MPMAP)
The Uses of 1-Methylpiperazine
1-Methylpiperazine is used in the preparation of 2-(4-methyl-1-piperazinylmethyl)acrylophenone. It is involved in the preparation of 1-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-4-methyl-piperazine by reacting with 1-chloro-4-methoxy-benzene. It acts as an intermediate in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients like ofloxacin, rifampicin, clozapine, sildenafil, trifluoperazine and zopiclone. Further, it is used as a mimic template in the preparation of molecularly imprinted microspheres. In addition to this, it is used in the generation of difunctional strong anion-exchange stationary phase from a 1,4-diazacyclohexane derivative.
What are the applications of Application
1-Methylpiperazine is a useful mimic template for the preparation of MIMs
Definition
ChEBI: 1-Methylpiperazine is a N-methylpiperazine.
Hazard
Moderate fire risk.
Flammability and Explosibility
Flammable
Safety Profile
Poison by intraperitoneal route. Moderately toxic by inhalation, ingestion, and skin contact. A severe skin and eye irritant. Flammable liquid when exposed to heat or flame; can react with oxidizing materials. To fight fire, use alcohol foam, CO2, dry chemical. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of NOx.
