PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Description
2-[2-(1-cyano-1-methylethyl)diazen-1-yl]-2-methylpropanenitrile belongs to the class of organic compounds known as azo compounds. These are derivatives of diazene(diimide), HN=NH, wherein both hydrogens are substituted by hydrocarbyl groups, e.g. PhN=NPh azobenzene or diphenyldiazene. Insoluble in water and denser than water. Moderately toxic by ingestion. Readily ignited by sparks or flames. Burns intensely and persistently. Toxic oxides of nitrogen are produced during combustion and used as a catalyst in vinyl polymerizations and a blowing agent for plastics.
