PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Description
Azelaic acid is a nine-carbon dicarboxylic acid found in grains such as rye, wheat and barley. It's naturally produced by Malassezia furfur (also known as Pityrosporum ovale), a yeast found on healthy skin. Azelaic acid has antimicrobial activity against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis by inhibiting the synthesis of microbial cytogenetic proteins. It can be used in the treatment of skin diseases such as acne and rosacea. In addition, Azelaic acid has the ability to scavenge free radicals and inhibit hyperpigmentation.
