Benzoyl chloride is a clear, colourless, fuming liquid with an irritating odour. It is mainly used in the preparation of benzoyl peroxide. It is also used in the synthesis of other chemicals, dyes, perfumes, polymerisation initiators, plasticisers, herbicides and pharmaceuticals.
