Description
Lidocaine hydrochloride is an amide local anesthetic and cardiac depressant, a class 1b antiarrhythmic. It is used for infiltration administration of regional nerve blocks and anesthesia. It prevents sodium ions from entering the nerve endings at the site of pain and disrupts the electrical signals reaching the brain. It is more potent and longer acting than procaine, but its duration of action is shorter than that of bupivacaine or prilocaine.
