What is Cesium carbonate ?
Description
One of the biggest advantages of cesium carbonate (Cs2CO3) is that it has a higher solubility in most solvents than K2CO3 or Na2CO3.
The Uses of Cesium carbonate
The alcohol (A) (2 g, 8.6 mmol), the bromide (B) (0.9 mL, 9.5 mmol), and K2CO3 (1.8 g, 13 mmol) in ACN (40 mL) were stirred at 80 C overnight. The mixture was diluted with H2O and EtOAc. The org layer was separated, dried (MgSO4), and concentrated. The resulting material was purified by Prep LC (450 g silica, 15% EtOAc/heptane) to provide the product. [2.1 g, 84%]
The Uses of Cesium carbonate
Cesium carbonate is a versatile reagent for organic synthesis. This inorganic base has been employed in numerous organic applications ranging from N-protection of amino acids to a base in either the Horner- Wadsworth-Emmons reaction or in Suzuki couplings. It has also found use as a catalyst for ethylene oxide polymerization, in coating for spatter-free welding of steel in CO2, as a functional interlayer in photovoltaic devices and in oxide cathodes. Cesium carbonate is also used in the beer-brewing industry to make the "head" of beer foamier.
What are the applications of Application
Cesium carbonate is a promoter of O-alkylation of alcohols
