The theoretical BOD for hydroxyacetic acid was reported to be 0.89 after 5 days using acclimated mixed microbial cultures(2). Hydroxyacetic acid, present at 100 mg/L, reached 86% of its theoretical BOD in 2 weeks using an activated sludge inoculum at 30 mg/L in the Japanese MITI test(3). Therefore this compound is expected to biodegrade rapidly in the environment(SRC).

Bioaccumulative potential
