MSO2P was hydroxylated to form 4-methylsulfonylcatechol. In this case ortho cleavage occurred, splitting the ring between atoms 1 and 2 to form 3-methylsulfonylmuconic acid.

Fensulfothion applied to soil did not leach beyond a 15 cm depth and remained in the initial zone of application over a period of 150 days(2). A Koc of 300 was reported for fensulfothion(3). According to a classification scheme(4), this Koc value suggests that fensulfothion is expected to have moderate mobility in soil(SRC).
