Uses (1R)-(+)-α-Pinene is used in hydroboration reactions and the reduction of ketones.
Definition ChEBI: The (+)-enantiomer of alpha-pinene.
Purification Methods It is isomerised by heat, acids and certain solvents. It should be distilled under reduced pressure under nitrogen and stored in the dark. It has been purified via the nitrosochloride [Waterman et al. Recl Trav Chim, Pays-Bas 48 1191 1929]. For purification of optically active forms see Lynn [J Am Chem Soc 91 361 1919].
