The Uses of stannane

Stannane, SxH4 is a colorless poisonous gas that decomposes rapidly at room temperature. A large number of organostannanes, eg, R3SnH and R2SnH2, are known, and their properties as organic reducing agents have been extensively investigated.

Definition

A colorless poisonous gas prepared by the action of lithium tetrahydroaluminate(III) on tin(II) chloride. It is unstable, decomposing immediately at 150°C. Stannane acts as a reducing agent.
