Synthesis
Anhydrous methanol (50 mL) was placed in a 100 mL 2-neck round bottom flask equipped with a reflux condenser and an additional dropping funnel. Cool to ice temperature. Acetyl chloride (3 mL) was added dropwise through the dropping funnel. L-isoleucine (3 g) was added after 15 minutes, and the reaction mixture was refluxed at 70 °C overnight. The reaction mixture was dried under vacuum to obtain methyl l-phenylalaninate hydrochloride.
