Fluorescent brightener 85 is a fluorescent brightener used in the textile, paper and detergent industries as a textile whitener, paper whitener in detergents, and as a colour correction or whitening additive in cosmetics such as shampoos, conditioners and eye make-up. It is also a fluorescent material that absorbs ultraviolet light and emits visible (blue-violet) light, so once deposited on fabrics they enhance the whiteness or brightness appearance of white or light-coloured fabrics.
