Ethyl 3-Amino-4-methylbenzoate

Ethyl 3-Amino-4-methylbenzoate Structural

What is Ethyl 3-Amino-4-methylbenzoate?

Synthesis

Dissolve 10 g of palladium on carbon (10%) and 140 g of ammonium formate in 400 ml of methanol, and then dissolve 136 g of ethyl 3-nitro-4-methylbenzoate (2) in 400 ml of methanol. Add the methanol solution of (2) dropwise to the reaction flask at room temperature. The reaction exotherms until the methanol boils. Continue the dropwise addition. After the dropwise addition, TLC detects the completion of the reaction and filters the palladium carbon. Concentrate the methanol, add 400ml of water, and filter to obtain 156g of white solid ethyl 3-amino-4-methylbenzoate (Ethyl 3-Amino-4-methylbenzoate) as a wet product, which can be used in the next step without drying.
