The Uses of 5-Bromoindole
5-Bromoindole is a potential inhibitor of GSK-3.
What are the applications of Application
Spectroscopic characterisation of 5-Bromoindole (5-BrI) in poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) films showed that the fluorescence of 5-BrI in PVA films was similar to that of indole in PVA films, but was strongly quenched compared to unsubstituted indole. The quantum yield of 5-BrI was only 0.0034, compared to that of indole, which was 0.26. In contrast, the phosphorescence of 5-BrI in PVA was comparable in intensity and lifetime to that of indole, but its emission was shifted by 50 nm to a longer wavelength, reaching a maximum at 530 nm. 5-BrI phosphorescence in PVA is comparable in intensity and lifetime to indole phosphorescence, but the emission wavelength is shifted by 50 nm to longer wavelengths, reaching a maximum at 530 nm. 5-BrI phosphorescence in PVA can be efficiently excited at longer wavelengths (450-500 nm). Its excitation spectrum has a maximum at about 480 nm.
Purification Methods
Purify it by steam distillation from a faintly alkaline solution. Cool the aqueous distillate, collect the solid, dry it in a vacuum desiccator over P2O5 and recrystallise it from aqueous EtOH (35% EtOH) or pet ether/Et2O. UV in MeOH has at 279, 287 and 296nm (log 3.70, 3.69 and 3.53). The picrate has m 137-138o(dec) (from max Et2O/pet ether). [UV: Thesing et al.
