PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Description
Potassium bromide is a halogenated salt with the appearance of a colourless or white crystalline powder or white granular solid, soluble in double-distilled water. It has sedative effects and is most commonly used as an additional anticonvulsant to phenobarbital when phenobarbital is ineffective or inefficient. It acts similarly to phenobarbital in that it raises the neuronal threshold for seizures. Potassium bromide is excreted through the kidneys, making it useful in dogs with liver disease, but the dose of the drug needs to be reduced in dogs with any kidney disease.
